Stories I’m Replaying

When the same conversation, worry, or self-judgment keeps coming back, it can take up a lot of your attention. Take a moment to notice the story, loosen its grip, and choose where your attention and actions go next.

Your experience matters. “Story” means the words and meanings your mind keeps returning to. It does not mean something is made up. There may be a real hurt, problem, or need to respond to.

How This ACT Practice Helps
This practice uses cognitive defusion: noticing thoughts as thoughts so you can consider them with more freedom. You also practice focusing and shifting attention, then choosing an action that fits your values and circumstances.
A thought may contain useful information and still become an exhausting replay. The aim is to reduce its grip on your behavior and strengthen your ability to respond. Feeling calmer can be welcome; you can also notice progress in being able to refocus, recognize a need, ask for help, or choose your next action.
