Change the Pattern Without Assigning Blame
Families can care deeply about one another and still get caught in cycles of conflict, distance, worry, or misunderstanding.
At Luna & Sol Counseling, family therapy creates a structured space to slow the cycle down, hear each person more clearly, and practice different ways of responding.
When the same problem keeps returning
Family Stress Often Lives in Patterns Between People
Therapy looks beyond a single “problem person” to understand how stress, roles, communication, and life changes affect the whole system.
Communication Loops
Conversations escalate quickly, important topics get avoided, or everyone leaves feeling unheard.
Transitions and Pressure
Moves, divorce, remarriage, grief, illness, school changes, caregiving, or other shifts strain familiar routines.
Parent–Child Conflict
Rules, independence, responsibilities, technology, school, or emotions become repeated sources of tension.
Distance and Disconnection
Family members withdraw, stop trusting one another, or feel unsure how to repair after hurt.
The goal is not to decide who is right. Family therapy helps clarify the cycle, identify each person’s needs and responsibilities, and create more workable interactions.
Care that fits the family
Therapy for Different Family Needs
Parent and Child or Teen Sessions
Sessions may focus on communication, boundaries, emotional needs, conflict, routines, and developmentally appropriate expectations.
Whole-Family or Selected-Member Sessions
Depending on goals, therapy may include the whole family, specific family members, or a combination. The therapist will explain who should attend and why.
Structured and collaborative
How Family Therapy Can Help
One person raises their voice, another withdraws, and the same conversation ends without either feeling heard. We slow down moments like these to understand what each person feels, needs, and does next.
Family therapy focuses on the patterns, relationships, and daily pressures affecting your family. Sessions may include communication practice, caregiver support, solution-focused strategies, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or changes to roles and routines. We practice listening, noticing strong reactions, expressing needs, and choosing a response with more care. Boundaries, safety, and each person’s needs remain part of the work.
See the Cycle
Map what happens before, during, and after difficult moments so the pattern becomes something the family can work on together.
Communicate More Clearly
Practice listening, naming needs, setting limits, and making requests without escalating or shutting down.
Repair and Reorganize
Build new routines, clarify roles, strengthen boundaries, and create practical plans for recurring stress points.

What the First Sessions Are Like
- 1
We Learn What Has Been Happening
You can share at your own pace. We will talk about concerns, stressors, strengths, relationships, routines, and what you want from counseling.
- 2
We Build a Shared Plan
Together, we identify priorities and a manageable direction for therapy. Your plan can change as we learn what helps.
- 3
We Practice Usable Skills
Sessions may include reflection, exercises, and small between-session experiments designed for real life instead of perfection.
Luna & Sol offers in-person counseling in The Woodlands and virtual counseling for clients located in Texas, when clinically appropriate.
Start with one small step
Try a Free ACT Exercise
These interactive tools are educational resources, not a diagnosis or a substitute for therapy. They can help you notice what is happening and choose a next step that matters.
Flexibility Compass
If you are too depleted for another difficult conversation, check your capacity and consider a pause or support before responding.
Values Explorer
If conflict has crowded out what matters, name how you want to show up in your family and choose one action within your control.
Free ACT Tools
If you are replaying an argument, preparing a boundary, or wanting to repair, find a starting point that fits your situation.
Common questions
Family Therapy FAQ
Who should attend family therapy?
It depends on the concern and goals. The therapist may recommend the whole family, selected members, caregiver-only meetings, or a combination, and will explain the reasoning.
What if one family member does not want to participate?
You can still request a consultation. The therapist can discuss what is possible with willing participants and whether individual, caregiver, or family sessions are the best starting point.
Will the therapist take sides?
The therapist works to understand the interaction pattern and each person’s perspective while supporting accountability and safety. The goal is not to declare a winner.
Can family therapy happen virtually?
Virtual family sessions may be available for participants located in Texas, depending on clinical fit, privacy, technology, and therapist availability. In-person services are offered in The Woodlands.
How long does family therapy take?
There is no universal timeline. Length depends on goals, participation, complexity, safety, circumstances, and how the family responds to changes practiced between sessions.
